Coconut Creek is home to a population of just under 50,000 people within its city limits, though within the South Florida Metropolitan Area where Coconut Creek resides that number grows to close to 5.4 million people. Even though the population size of this area is on the rise, that does not mean the Coconut Creek and its surrounding areas fall victim to overcrowding and urban sprawl. Coconut Creek is widely regarded as a city with a “unique environmental consciousness,” boasting a plethora of trees, waterways, attractive landscaped roads, beautiful parks, and butterfly gardens throughout the many neighborhoods that comprise the community. Coconut Creek is also known as the Butterfly Capital of the World as the city is home to the world’s largest butterfly aviary. Butterfly World, the name of this world renowned destination, is home to over 80 species and 5,000 individual butterflies.


Coconut Creek Parks & Recreation

The relaxation and comfort of their citizens and guests are among the highest priorities for the City of Coconut Creek. In Coconut Creek itself, there are a number of different outdoor escapes available to enjoy. The Coconut Creek Parks and Recreation Department consists of some of the most dedicated and caring individuals to be found in this region. The department operates 20 city parks/playgrounds and offers 227 acres of active and passive parks. The City of Coconut Creek operates and maintains an extensive and active park system, one that they are most proud of and welcome all those within Coconut Creek to use as their own.

Donaldson Park
Donaldson Park lies close to the Rowe Community Center and features the only sun-bathing beach in Coconut Creek. The park is opened from sunrise to sunset and also contains a boat ramp, a man-made beach, a gazebo, large open areas under towering trees, and playground equipment.

Sabal Pines Park
Sabal Pines Park was assisted in its development through financial assistance from the 1998 Florida Legislature through the Florida Department of Environmental Protection. Sabal Pines Park is also Coconut Creek’s largest city-run park and is opened from 7 a.m. to dusk, to 10 p.m. by permit.

Township Estates Park
Township Estates Park is one of Coconut Creek’s most hidden and treasured features. The park is covered in huge shade trees along the entire stretch of its “L” shaped pattern.

Winston Park Nature Center
A glimpse of what Coconut Creek used to look like before development arrived, Winston Park Nature Trail winds through native trees and plants and the park’s key feature, a 1,005-foot long boardwalk, winds through the native Cypress trees.
